Trustees for Kyra Women’s Project
Would you like to gain Board experience while supporting an established and growing women’s charity in York?
Kyra women’s Project is looking for new trustees with a real commitment to improving women’s well-being. We welcome all skills and experience and would especially welcome candidates with experience of fundraising, business, PR and marketing, digital transformation, health economics and analytics & research but would welcome applications from any women who support our values and want to make a difference to women’s wellbeing. We recognise diversity and inclusion are a source of strength in achieving our mission and we want to reflect the diversity of the service users we support at all levels in the organisation: to that end, we are seeking diversity of perspective, background, lived experience, physical abilities, ethnicities and therefore welcome everyone, particularly those from under-represented groups, that are interested in empowering and supporting women.
You will need to have, or be prepared to gain, understanding of the charity sector and the not-for-profit network in and around York. You will need to be able to work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and the CEO, contribute constructively to Board discussions and decision-making, and bring ideas and energy to the work of the Board. Ideally, you will be interested in and willing to take up more responsibility within the Board, such as being a Lead Trustee for an area of work (e.g. Safeguarding) or Chair of a Committee.
The role would involve attendance at quarterly board meetings (in person in central York or online) and at one of our sub-committees, which meet quarterly online. All Trustees sit on either the Finance Committee or the Marketing and Fundraising Committee and all meetings are early evening. In addition, we have an annual Board Away Day to discuss strategy.
The role is voluntary and is open to women only (Exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1).
Our vision is ‘a society where women feel safe, valued and able to fulfil their potential; where they are respected and free to be themselves, and where their contributions are recognised.’
Our mission is ‘to support and empower women to improve their lives by providing a holistic, non-medical approach, in a safe and non-judgemental environment.’
You can learn more about us on our website at https://www.kyra.org.uk.
Whether or not you have previous experience at the Board level, this is an exciting opportunity to get involved in an engaging, decision-making role in an impactful gender- specific charity that is at the heart of the communities it serves, and we would like to hear from you!
To express interest in becoming a Trustee of Kyra, please email our CEO Dr Ira Laketic Ljubojevic at ira@kyra.org.uk with information about your relevant skills and experience and your reasons for wanting to join our Board. An informal chat with our Board Chair, Nicola Winter, can be arranged prior to interview, if requested.
Closing Date: 12 noon on Monday 13th October, 2025.
Interviews are expected to take place on Friday, 7th November, 2025, but the date will be confirmed nearer the time.
Successful candidates will be invited to Kyra Women’s Project Board Away Day in York on Friday 5th December, 2025 from 9.30am to 4pm, where they can meet the rest of the team and learn more about the organisation.
