A Tech Boost for Kyra
We’re thrilled to share that Kyra was one of the local charities chosen to receive a donation of laptops through the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) laptop recycling scheme—and we couldn’t be more grateful.
The scheme, run in partnership with Computers 4 Charity and Business in the Community, is part of the FSA’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and community support.
Their goal? To keep reusable tech out of landfill while helping charities like Kyra thrive. So far, the project has already donated over 400 devices, and this year they’re on track to gift more than 500.
We received our donation at the York charitable giving event in March, alongside other brilliant York-based organisations like The Island, York Food Bank, and more. As Tim Lewis from the FSA put it:
“We’re not just providing equipment—we’re celebrating the incredible work done by local charities and community groups.”
Here at Kyra, we work closely with York Food Bank, regularly providing foodbank vouchers to our members. It was a great reminder of how organisations across the city work together to support those who need it most.
What the Laptops Will Be Used For
These laptops are already making a difference. They’ll be used by Kyra staff and volunteers to help run sessions, manage admin, and stay on top of the day-to-day work that keeps our services running. Having reliable equipment makes a huge difference to how we deliver support—and frees up more time and headspace to focus on the women who need us.
The environmental impact is important too. Studies show that each refurbished laptop saves approximately 213 kg of CO₂ emissions—that’s a 65% reduction compared making a brand-new laptop.
We’re sending a massive thank you to everyone involved at FSA. Your generosity is helping us continue supporting women in York to build confidence, access resources, and make meaningful change in their lives.
Want to Help?
If you’d like to help us keep Kyra moving forward, consider donating, fundraising, or becoming a corporate sponsor. Every act of kindness—big or small—helps power the work we do.
