Celebrating Member’s Week at Kyra
Last month, we wrapped up one of our favourite weeks in the Kyra calendar: Member’s Week! And it was as inspiring as ever.
From August 26 to 29, five of our incredible members stepped up to lead sessions in sewing, journaling, writing, crochet, and career support. Each session offered a chance to slow down, get creative, and try something new.
But more than that, it was a celebration of the skills, generosity, and leadership that Kyra’s members bring to our community.
Led by Members, For Members
Every session during Members’ Week was run by a Kyra member, which made the week feel extra special. Here’s what was on offer:
- Hand Sewing with Imogen: A calming session to start the week, reminding us that “the best things in life are handmade.”
- Art Journaling with Kate: A creative, reflective session exploring self-care through colours, textures, and words.
- Creative Writing with Martha: A chance to spark imagination and emotion through writing, no pressure or experience needed.
- Crochet for Beginners with Moira: A joyful, beginner-friendly session filled with laughter, connection, and crafty fun.
- 1:1 CV Writing Support with Louise: Practical, confidence-boosting help with job applications in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Why Member’s Week Matters
At Kyra, it’s never just staff and volunteers who bring value, our members are the heart of everything we do. Time and again, they show up with incredible skills, creativity, and care.
Member’s Week made that impossible to miss. Whether it’s leading a crochet group, guiding a writing session, or offering career support, our members consistently prove just how much they have to offer. Not just to each other, but to the wider Kyra community.
It’s something we see all year round. When we hold stalls or take part in events like International Women’s Day, it’s often members’ own handmade creations we’re selling to raise funds. Members like Kit Taylor and Beth Moulam, who are award-winning creatives and advocates in their own right, remind us what happens when women are given the tools and encouragement to thrive.
When members lead, it builds confidence, connection, and a real sense of shared purpose. It also shows just how much stronger we are when we recognise everyone’s value—not just what they need, but what they bring.
