Kyra Marches at York Pride for the First Time

On Saturday 7 June 2025, Kyra took part in York Pride for the very first time—and we didn’t hold back.

We met at the war memorial outside the Minster on Duncombe Place, joining the crowds in a sea of colour, glitter, face paint, and flags. Staff, members, and volunteers came together—some in their Kyra t-shirts, others draped in rainbows—to walk in solidarity and celebration through the city.

At the front of our group, we held a bold new banner: Kyra Supports Trans Women.

The parade kicked off at 12 noon, and for the next couple of hours, we wound our way through York’s historic streets before arriving at the Knavesmire. There, the party continued with hundreds of stalls, community organisations, food trucks, funfair rides, and live performances—a vibrant, joyful celebration of LGBTQ+ life in York.

Why It Mattered

It was a brilliant day—but it also meant a lot.

Plenty of our members, volunteers and staff are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Some are working out their identity. Some are trans, bi, queer, non-binary, or lesbian. And events like York Pride give people the chance to be out in the world, as themselves, surrounded by support. Being there together showed what Kyra’s all about—supporting women, in all our diversity.

Showing Up, Speaking Out

It was also a chance for Kyra members to take up space, celebrate who they are, and feel part of something bigger. Whether it was someone’s first Pride or their tenth, marching together was a moment of real connection, community, and pride (in every sense of the word).

We’re already making plans for next year, where we’ll be back at York Pride 2026—this time with a stall as well as a marching group. We hope to see even more of you there.

Want to Get Involved?
Kyra is a women’s project open to any woman identifying as such, aged 18 or over, in the York area. We offer courses, peer groups, mental health support, and a welcoming community of women who get it.

All of these services are completely free for our members, but that means we rely on donations, sponsors and fundraising. Email us at contact@kyra.org.uk if you want to find out more.
