What We Offer
At Kyra, our activities timetable is always evolving to meet the needs of our members. Some services remain constant, while others change over time.
What we offer:
- Social spaces, like our drop-ins, where you can meet new people, make friends, and explore the support available at Kyra.
- Courses and workshops on topics such as recovery from domestic abuse, anxiety, self-esteem, resilience, assertiveness, loss, and boundaries.
- Confidential counselling with our team of qualified professionals.
- Practical support, including legal advice, money management, and ICT skills.
- Mentoring and coaching to help you set goals, develop strategies, and navigate challenges.
- Wellbeing activities, from singing, poetry, and creative writing to gardening, walking, mindfulness, and crafts.
- Specialist support for young people and those affected by neurodiversity.
Joining a course
Most courses at Kyra Women’s Project are free. If you feel you can give a donation, it would help keep these and future courses free.
It is important to book a place as spaces are limited. Whether it’s building your self-esteem, managing stress or improving your skills for work, there are many courses to choose from each month. See our monthly newsletter for more details and a monthly timetable.
Overview of courses

My Money. My Life …
Would you like a Financial Coach? Someone who can provide information about financial issues, help you to understand the benefits system? Would you like to improve your money skills and knowledge in a way that works for you, with someone alongside for guidance? Do you panic at the idea of doing a budget and would you like guidance with creating and keeping one? If so, come and speak to Alison at Kyra. Hour long slots can be booked.

Building Self-esteem
A healthy self-esteem is an important part of our well-being. We offer the ESTA Programme, which has two main objectives: to encourage a better understanding of our self-esteem and self-efficacy; and to teach practical skills and techniques which enable changes in thinking and behaviour to improve self-esteem. These strategies help encourage change in behaviour and thoughts that are linked to low self-esteem.

The ROSE project
Our ROSE project is for young women aged 18 – 25. Amongst crafts and other activities, the group has discussed personal safety, wellbeing, mental health, body image and self-confidence. Members have said: “It gave me a space to be slightly weird and cackly while also discussing really important things. The fact that I didn’t need to hide my mental health issues made me feel so much more comfortable.” And: “Going to the ROSE project was the first time I was able to leave the house and go into York town centre without having a panic attack in a long time. I learnt about self-esteem in a way that I hadn’t understood before.” For more information, email sherrie@kyra.org.uk

Drop-ins
Everyone is welcome at our weekly drop-in sessions where you can share a cup of tea and a chat with other members and our volunteers. Some members use the session to do some crafting – or you can just sit and enjoy the company.

Social Activities
Our social activities are a fun, relaxed way of engaging in a shared interest, which nurtures your self-confidence and social interactions. We hold regular activities to suit many different interests: poetry, art, crafts, cookery. Whether you want to manage stress, need a form of escape, meet with others, challenge yourself or just enjoy a shared moment, you’re welcome to join one of our free regular social activities. See the events calendar or view the monthly newsletter for details.
