On the 6th June, after being successfully shortlisted, our fantastic volunteer Izzy and our Office and Anniversary Events coordinator Stef were invited to the University of York Volunteering Awards evening at the Guildhall. They got to meet the other incredible nominees and hear about the fantastic contributions they have been making to support the community in York. The evening was made even more fantastic when it was announced that Izzy was awarded with the ‘Community Cohesion’ award.

There were numerous reasons for us nominating Izzy for the award, however we feel this short extract nicely summarises a key aspect of why we felt it necessary to recognise her contributions: “With our members she is able to adapt quickly to the variety of personalities, knowing who to give space and who to pay more attention to. Our members quickly took to her, and it has been great to see her forge connections with them. We believe a key reason for this is her great listening skills and her attuned sense of humour.”

Thank you to the University and all those involved in organising the event, and most importantly well done to Izzy, we are all very proud of her.
